About Curious Dust

Curious - Eager to know or learn something - a quality related to exploration, investigation and learning

Dust - A fine, dry powder laying on the ground or carried into the air - in both science and literature, the source material for everything from stars to human beings

Why Curious? Curiousity is not unique to humans, but we have it to a much greater degree than any other species. Because it sparks our desire to learn new things, it has tremendously improved the quality of our lives while creating some challenging and interesting new problems for us to solve.

Why Dust? Besides being a curious species, our origin stories tell us we originated from dust, whether from self organizing interstellar particles (science) or from molded clay (some religions). And we all eventually turn to dust. So here we are, as brilliant as a spark, as common as dust. Curious Dust.

About the Author of this Website

My name is Jan C. Weaver. I am a retired educator who taught formally at the college level for about 20 years, and informally at all levels for over 40 years. My subject area is science, mainly ecology and the environment, but my teaching has incorporated writing, basic algebra and statistics, and the social sciences. One of the things I love about teaching, besides seeing students 'get it', is the encouragement teaching provides for me to learn new stuff. So even in retirement, I want to keep on teaching and learning and poking around, and that is why I created this website.
